Mind Spring is an award winning preventive psychoeducational group programme that bridges the gap in current mental health provision for people seeking sanctuary. It delivers sessions in the participants’ mother tongue and focuses on areas that are specifically relevant to the trauma associated with having to seek asylum.

It is always facilitated by a trainer with lived experience and a co-trainer who is a mental health or social care professional. Each Mind-Spring cohort (8-15 participants) can only be run in one language and Oasis currently has the ability to run cohorts in the following languages: Arabic, Kurdish, Ukrainian, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, French, Russian, Tigrinya, Spanish, and English.

The overall objectives of Mind-Spring are to:

  • improve the mental health and wellbeing of refugees and asylum seekers;
  • help with social and cultural integration;
  • empower individuals to be able to build a future in their new community; and
  • increase their sense of control.

Through seven weekly two hour sessions, we look together to help the participants build a strong and positive identity and increase their sense of control over their future. After completing the course, participants are awarded with a certificate and a celebration.
