WHAT WE DO

AT OASIS, WE OFFER ASYLUM SEEKERS AND REFUGEES A WARM WELSH WELCOME!

We welcome around 150 people into our building per day, which equates to over 3,500 people supported by Oasis every year.

Oasis started in 2008 and operates as an essential hub for sanctuary seekers in the heart of Cardiff. We are a buzzing community of many nationalities, cultures, experiences, skills, challenges, successes, and food - lots of food! We are wholeheartedly committed to creating an environment of inclusivity and compassion, where people feel safe and welcomed.

Oasis provides a wide range of holistic, free services for sanctuary seekers which operate on a drop-in basis. This includes:

Outside of our centre, we organise regular cultural and sports trips around Wales from museum and art gallery visits to sport team activities and mountain peak challenges.

To involve and engage our local and wider community with what
we do and all of the amazing people we meet we run regular community events and have a food truck that serves Middle Eastern and Latin inspired food, introduced to us by our culinarily talented clients.

About Plat Maŵr:

The Plate project, Plat Maŵr's predecessor, was a project that aimed to involve and engage the local and the wider community in our work with all of the amazing people who access our centre and the melting pot of cultural food heritages from around the globe.

The Plat Maŵr project largely continues these aims, providing a free lunch every week day for sanctuary seekers. A key element of this project is providing cooking workshops where participants learn to cook nutritious, healthy meals on a budget. Unable to work, asylum seekers rely on government support which amounts to very little. Cultural and language differences may also mean they struggle navigating supermarkets.

Our new interactive workshops aim to bridge this gap and empower clients with nutrition advice, food safety and hygiene training, and basic cooking skills - plus we get to make some yummy food!
