Latest Blogs The Ripple Effect: Episode 2 - Charlie's Story Episode 2 of The Ripple Effect gives a human voice to the struggles and issues within the housing sector. After receiving a positive asylum decision, Charlie was handed an eviction letter to leave his property within 28 days. This is a common experience for asylum seekers who often experience homelessness after getting refugee status due to short move on periods. At the end of 2022, Cardiff was hosting 50% of the asylum population in Wales and was the fourth largest hosting city in the UK after Glasgow, Birmingham and Liverpool (1). Cardiff is currently in the midst of a housing crisis, with Cardiff Council stating that there are currently 8,200 households on the Cardiff Social Housing Waiting list (2). Contrary to popular belief, sanctuary seekers do not 'skip the queue' and often find themselves homeless once they receive a positive asylum decision.
